Floating Barriers for Moving Water Conditions

floating turbidity barriersTriton Type 2 Floating Turbidity Curtain is a contractor favorite for silt and turbidity control in moving water conditions. Our floating turbidity barriers have helped to control dispersed materials in rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, and roadside water bodies. Standard design of the turbidity curtain uses between 13 oz. and 22 oz. PVC material, bottom ballast chain, and robust section connectors. Working to match different sites, the Type 2 turbidity curtain is available in both permeable and impermeable models.

Choosing Type 2 Silt Curtains

silt curtainsChoosing the right Type 2 Silt Curtain for your location will depend on several factors including your flow rate, wave frequency and winds. Type 2 Economy and DOT curtains are typically our contractor grade barriers and are designed for short term applications that involve moving water conditions. For long term projects or conditions that require extended protection, Type 2 HD and Type 2 HD Permeable Curtains are a significantly stronger option. These curtains are higher in strength, making them better equipped for stronger curtains or longer term project.

Silt Curtain Considerations
Any time you are considering a curtain for an area with moving elements, there are a couple of elements that should be taken into consideration. The three most important conditions to consider include the following:

  • Wind: How fast and in what direction?
  • Waves: How tall and how frequently?
  • Current: How fast?

Calm Water Conditions
Since not all water locations feature the same level of water conditions, Solhutec, a division of GEI Works manufactures turbidity curtains in a Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3. The Type 1 Floating Turbidity Curtain is used in calm water locations where there is minimal currents, wave action or tides. Type 3 models are similar to the Type 2, but add an additional tension cable for higher flows and ocean waves.

Custom Jobs
Turbidity curtains can also be custom manufactured to meet the exact specifications and requirements of your job. If you are working off of a drawing or spec sheet, please send it through to us and we will work to custom manufacture the curtain for your job.
